How to create a Stolperstein
This is a Stolperstein.
They are found in 1,800 cities in 31 countries in Europe. And there are more than 100,000 of them.
Each is manufactured by hand.
Each is placed on the sidewalk in front of the victim’s home.
Each of them starts in the same way.
With a person.
A person you want to commemorate.
Because they were a relative.
Because they were persecuted and killed by the Nazis.
Once you know whom you want to commemorate, the next step is to find out as much as possible about them: where and when they were born and lived – including addresses – and how they were persecuted and murdered. The more you know, the better.

The next step is to send this information to the Stolpersteine organization in charge of your person. It is located in the city in which you wish to place the Stolperstein, and can be found using a search engine.

The Stolpersteine people will tell you if they need more information, and when and where the Stolperstein will be placed.

The making and placement of a Stolpersteine costs €120. This comes from donations from people, and not from the government or companies. Our suggestion: launch a fund raising drive!
The last step is to attend the ceremony of placement of your Stolperstein – or to get a video or photos of it.
